Making snow look like snow

You don't have to color everything. Leaving some areas white is the easiest way to make snow. Shade just under the edges with a pale blue or gray pencil, and the white will start to look soft and raised.

Colors that aren't just blue

Winter palettes work best with warm spots: a red scarf, orange mittens, a yellow window glowing in a cabin. Cold colors around a few warm ones make a page feel cozy rather than icy.

Ideas for a snow day

  • Color a page while you wait for hot chocolate to cool.
  • Cut out a finished snowman and tape it to a window.
  • Print two copies and see how differently two people color the same scene.

Questions about these pages

Are the winter coloring pages free to print?

Yes. You can print them for home, classroom and personal use. Please don't sell them or repost them elsewhere. Link to this page instead.

What paper size do they print on?

They are made for standard Letter and A4 paper.

Which pages are best for young children?

Choose the ones with one large subject and thick outlines, like a single snowman or a big mitten.

What can I use to color snow?

Leave the paper white, or add light shading with a pale blue or gray pencil. A white gel pen can add snowflakes on top of darker colors.
